By the mid to late 1750s shapes such as these were more the order of the day for the fashionable hostesses of Tea Parties.
One wonders whether they commissioned their own designs or whether the goldsmith had a set of styles to offer to his rich clients from which they made their choice.

The quatrefoil style of tongs, seen on the right, seem particularly desireable. They certainly have a sinuous grace to their design.
